ARZone Podcast 62: RPA's David Cantor Returns

Episode 62 features a return visit with the Executive Director of Responsible Policies for Animals, David Cantor. When we first spoke with David in Episode 53, David explained RPA’s vision and mission as a group that engages in what he calls “strict rights advocacy”, rejecting both the traditional animal welfare strategy as well as abolitionism. David believes and argues that “rights precede abolition”. In this podcast, David speaks about the progress RPA has been making as well as why he believes that other animals must be recognized as persons before they can be protected by rights. Currently active in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Venezuela and India, Animal Equality promotes a vegan lifestyle. Laura Gough is the campaign director and spokesperson for AE’s operation in the UK; Sharon Núñez is President and International Spokesperson of Igualdad Animal/Animal Equality.

Animal Equality seeks to inform and educate the public about speciesism and veganism through leafletting, information stalls, talks, workshops, vegan food tastings, media work and online advocacy. They host film screenings, info-stalls, talks, workshops and educational programs in schools and Universities. They conduct investigations to expose animal exploitation on farms, in slaughterhouses, circuses and zoos. They also perform open rescues of individuals from such places, in order to provide them with the safety and care of long-term homes and sanctuaries.

Animal Equality engage in peaceful demonstrations and non-violent direct action to bring attention to the plight of other animals.

ARZone Podcast 51: Greg McFarlane - Vegan Australia

Episode 51 features special guest Greg McFarlane.  

Greg McFarlane is the president of the Vegan Society of New South Wales, a community-based, non-profit organisation founded in 1981 in Southeastern Australia.

In this ARZone Podcast, Greg talks about the challenges of creating a national advocacy organization, the core influences that affect the "life cycle of a vegan", single-issue campaigns, his pragmatic approach to outreach, and much more. Audio podcast, approx 56 minutes.



The Vegan Society aims to promote veganism by encouraging the use of alternatives to all products derived wholly or partly from other animals. The Society emphasizes education, both about the rights of other animals, as well as the health and environmental benefits of veganism. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities as president, Greg is focusing now on building a new and highly visible national vegan organization throughout Australia, scheduled to launch before the end of 2012.
