ARZone Podcast 51: Greg McFarlane - Vegan Australia

Episode 51 features special guest Greg McFarlane.  

Greg McFarlane is the president of the Vegan Society of New South Wales, a community-based, non-profit organisation founded in 1981 in Southeastern Australia.

In this ARZone Podcast, Greg talks about the challenges of creating a national advocacy organization, the core influences that affect the "life cycle of a vegan", single-issue campaigns, his pragmatic approach to outreach, and much more. Audio podcast, approx 56 minutes.



The Vegan Society aims to promote veganism by encouraging the use of alternatives to all products derived wholly or partly from other animals. The Society emphasizes education, both about the rights of other animals, as well as the health and environmental benefits of veganism. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities as president, Greg is focusing now on building a new and highly visible national vegan organization throughout Australia, scheduled to launch before the end of 2012.

ARZone Podcast 50: Bob Linden - Go Vegan Radio

Bob Linden, is the host of GO VEGAN Radio, a one hour talk radio programme accessible via download, live-stream and free podcast as well as weekly on US broadcast radio in California. 

In this ARZone Podcast, Bob talks about his radio show, the events, promotions, organizations and other forms of vegan outreach he conducts, the problems he sees in some animal advocacy conferences, and what he sees as the failure of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in regard to the recent proposed compromise with the United Egg Producers (UEP). Bob is a successful events organiser and promoter of social justice causes. He played a major role in developing and promoting Vegan Earth Day Events, San Diego Fall-Fest and Worldfest-LA, which he also emceed. Bob has been a vegan for almost 30 years. Anthony Marr, who was honoured with the Henry Spira Grassroots Activist Award at the AR2010 conference, has a degree in physics and is the author of two books: "OMNI-SCIENCE and the Human Destiny" and "Homo Sapiens! SAVE YOUR EARTH!". He has campaigned against the use of endangered species in traditional medicines; against whaling and dolphin slaughter; against global warming and mass extinction; and against sport hunting, urban deer culls and seal hunting.

Anthony has traveled the globe as an author, an environmentalist, a speaker and an advocate for other animals.

ARZone Podcast 48: Nick Cooney - Change of Heart

Episode 48 features special guest Nick Cooney. Nick is the Compassionate Communities Campaign manager for Farm Sanctuary. He is also the author of “Change of Heart: What Psychology Can Teach Us About Spreading Social Change” which VegNews named as one of its top ten books of 2011. Nick is also the founder of The Humane League, an advocacy organization that works to protect other animals through public education, campaigns and rescue. Audio podcast, about 45 mins.



Nick has written for publications including The Philadelphia Inquirer and Z Magazine, and his advocacy work has been featured in hundreds of media outlets including Time magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and National Public Radio.

Nick holds a degree in Non-Violence Studies from Hofstra University and formerly worked conducting nutrition education programs with the University of Pennsylvania's Urban Nutrition Initiative.

Dr. Andrew Knight is an Australian bioethicist and European Veterinary Specialist in Welfare Science, Ethics and Law who lives and practices veterinary medicine in London. He is a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, the Director of Animal Consultants International, which provides multidisciplinary expertise for animal issues, and he is spokesperson for Animals Count, a British political party for people and animals.

Andrew has produced over 50 scientific publications on animal issues. His key publications include a major series examining the contributions to human health-care of animal experiments. His work has attracted several awards at international scientific conferences, and forms the basis for his 2010 PhD as well as providing the foundations for his 2011 book The Costs and Benefits of Animal Experiments.

Andrew’s other publications have examined the contributions of the livestock sector to climate change, vegan companion animal diets, the animal welfare standards of veterinarians, and the latest evidence about animal cognitive and related abilities and the resultant moral implications.

Farm Animal Rescue’s new 55 acre base of operations, just north of Brisbane, includes a 45 acre sanctuary, 8 acres of native rainforest, plans for an education centre, cabins, campgrounds and office space for Farm Animal Rescue staff members.;

Farm Animal Rescue will not only be taking in and caring for numerous neglected and “used up” individuals, but will also campaign against other animals being used as commodities at all..
